Sewing Caddy

I was a little bored tonight as the guys were working on a motorcycle in my kitchen, yes I did say in my kitchen. Apparently it is too cold outside for them, so they pulled a freaking motorcycle into my kitchen...

What? You didn't believe me? Notice the tools taking over my counter and the missing dining table? It's in the spare bedroom..

Anyways....

So I busied myself in the living room and decided to do a little sewing. I've seen many variations of sewing caddies, some pretty fancy, some pretty simple. But I wanted one that could hold the essentials of what I use pretty much every time I sit down to sew.

You probably recognize this fabric from the hand warmers I made awhile back. I still have a ton of this left, you might just get bored of it by the time I use it all.

It has a removable thread catcher and removable pin cushion.

And I just folded the fabric on itself to make shorter pockets for my small scissors and seam ripper.

Already putting it to use with some of the craps from this project!

Oh and in case you are wondering, yes the motorcycle work is done and my kitchen has for the most part returned to it's normal state..

I'll be linking up!

Hoo are you?

So I've seen this on quite a few blogs I follow and figured hey why not? It's pretty interesting.

NightOwlCrafting

1. Do you wear glasses or contacts, if so for how long?
No, never have
2. What was your favorite board game as a kid?
That mousetrap game
3. What is a word that you use all the time?
Probably not one I should say on here, yes I am a potty mouth..
4. What is your favorite day of the week?
Sometimes after a stressful weekend it is Monday when the kids go back to school
5. Did you graduate high school from the town you grew up in?
Yes, I went to the same school system from Headstart to Graduation. In my graduating class there were several of us that had only gone to that school. Strangely though I was the only one of my siblings that did this.

Stayed tuned for next week's installment...

I've gotten a blog award!

My lovely friend Amanda from Galatians 4:22-23 nominated me! Thank you Amanda! You are a beautiful woman, both inside and out. Crazy talented too I might add!

Amanda also has a craft blog A&A Art where she showcases her talent, you should all check it out.

Here are the rules for the acceptance of the award:

1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you the award.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Award 15 other bloggers.
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award.

So on to the 7 things about myself, wow this might get interesting.

1. I am a huge tomboy, I am much more comfortable in jeans and sneakers out changing the oil in the truck and talking about engine size and transfer cases with the guys than I am talking about fashion or cooking with the women..

2. That being said though, I do love me some makeup! The times when I do wear it, I go all out and love trying new styles. I blame that on my previous job where I had to have full makeup and hair done all the time..

3. I hate having my fingernails painted, but my toenails have to be painted at all times.

4. I was a teen mom. In fact I had a kid in my teens, a kid in my 20s, and a kid in my 30s. There will be no kids in my 40s, momma got fixed!!

5. I was once a member of the Oklahoma Teeny Bikini Team. Like 5 years ago, sadly you wouldn't know it by looking at me now.

6. I love to sew, but don't like pattern sewing and usually just try to wing it. Sometimes that works, sometimes it turns out horribly.

7. I have never had a broken bone. *Knock on wood*

Okay so here are my nominations, I have tried to pick blogs that I don't think have gotten this before. I'm sure some probably have though because I know I can't be the only one who loves these as much as me..

Wow! Picking only 15 was hard!

The answer to crafter's block?

No internet! That's the answer I swear!
So I've been in a crafting slump lately. Oh there are plenty of projects I would like to do and I have the supplies for several already. Just no motivation. I'm also one that prefers instant gratification and being able to start and finish something in one sitting. If I keep getting interrupted, I lose my mojo on a project or my vision of it fades or changes.

So yesterday morning after getting the big kids off to school I sit down with my cup of coffee and bad news, my internet was down. Crap. Usually the morning is my quiet time when I check email and read my blogs. That was a no-go. But Big B and Mr K were still sleeping and I was wide awake. What else could there possibly be to do??

CRAFT! I whipped up a few keychains and a couple rosette necklaces and just random rosettes for future use. I've been a rosette making fool, lemme tell ya! Plus I threw together a little sunglasses pocket thing for Big B's uncle.

So I'm all happy with myself snapping pics here and there to show off post about and share with my lovely readers. I transfer the pics to my computer and sit down ready to type up a post and my screen freezes up and then the computer just won't power back on, then I get the blue screen. Yuck..

Long story short I think my hard drive has finally given up. So I plug in a spare hard drive to at least be able to access the internet and do a few things on the computer, but I have none of my pictures, none of my photo-editing software, and for some reason I can only use IE6 with this one, double YUCK. Yes I know I can download Picasa and Piknik or whatever, but I'm pretty dang loyal to Photoshop, it's what I know.

So no pics today people, I'm sorry. As soon as I find out for sure whether my other hard drive can be fixed {cross your fingers for me please} I will have some posted for you!

Have a great day everyone!!

Carseat recover - Sis in law owes me big!

Okay so my sister-in-law really wants a camo theme for her little boy that should be here in March and asked me awhile back if I could do a recover for her carseat. I put it off and put it off, thinking it would be way too hard and I would just screw it up. Finally over the past weekend I figured I better get started on it. Might as well get it done and out of the way and her kids have a habit of arriving a little ahead of schedule...

So here it is...

This was actually alot easier than I imagined it would be.. Time consuming yes, and I did end up using my seam ripper alot.. Give me a break though, this is my first one. Too bad Mr. K had an ugly carseat because Momma thought this would be too hard to do, I'm sorry little man...

Basically just took the original cover apart (which was actually quite nice and in my color theme for Mr. K) and replaced that fabric with the camo and minky.

On the canopy I was able to reuse the brown from the original saving myself some fabric and cutting.

I even finished the underside with binding covering all those seams..

This little neck pad thing was even easy to do, although I didn't replace the snaps. The brown is from the original and where it snaps onto the camo piece I just punched a little hole in the fabric so it would still snap.

The only thing I don't like about it is the tan binding on the main piece. Somehow the original binding ended up being too short once I started putting it back on. How that happened I do not know???? I didn't add anything extra.. No extra padding or bulk, it's gotta be safe for baby.. So I made a quick trip to Walmart this evening to get more but they were out of brown, no brown whatsoever.. I suppose I could've waited and gone to Hancock's tomorrow but I was ready to get this thing done..
Oh well sis will still love it, she better cause I ain't redoing this thing!!
So what do you think?

I'm linking up.. These are the linky parties I like to go to..

I don't like leather..

Actually I do love leather, I'm just not a fan of working with it.. That's what I've been working with the past 2 days..
Wow it seems like forever since I've posted, I'm sorry about that. I've been doing a few things here and there just nothing too creative. So I thought I would post about a few of the other things I work on from time to time..
I've also been making some patches for Big B and his buddies for their vests. I swear men are way more picky than women.. I redesigned several of them before they were finally happy, and these were just name patches and worded patches, nothing fancy..

Sorry if the language on a couple of these offend any of my readers, they are biker patches though and some people want those patches.

A few for the ladies..

Of course the one the dog decided to chew on was my name, hmm you think he's trying to say something??

Back to the leather thing though.. If you can avoid it, I highly recommend not attempting to hand sew leather. Or more specifically, several layers of thick leather. It's a pain in the wazoo and it sucks. And I don't have a thimble so I don't know how many times my fingers slipped and I stabbed myself with the needle..

I've needed to shorten my chaps for quite awhile now but have been putting it off, I don't get to ride all that often and it's really not a big deal with them being how they were. But one of Big B's friends is short like me and had the same problem with his chaps and asked if I could somehow take them in a bit. Well you know me.. I said I'd give it a try. It wasn't too bad for the most part. My machine could handle most of it, although I would highly recommend a leather needle. I have one. somewhere.. Couldn't find it so I just used a heavy duty needle and it was fine..
After I fixed his, I figured I would fix mine since I had the needle on the machine already..

See that little dotted section on either side of the pocket? That's what needed to come out.

But I didn't want to lose the pocket, plus I didn't want to tear them up trying to get the rivet thing out. I just took out the seams around the pocket and folded it back out of my way..

Fold in half RST then stitch..

The cut the looped part..

Fold both inside seams to one side and stitch it down. I got a little crooked on one side, but once it's all done it's not too noticeable.

A little handsewing was needed on that part because those layers at the edges were just too think for my machine.
Now just had to reattach the pocket, I handsewed all of it. It was a slightly easier because the stitch holes were already there, but going through the seam I made was not easy with my cheapo little needle..

I did have a little bit of company, Mr. K decided he wanted to be up and play at 11 pm.. Please excuse the drool mess on his shirt, we *might* have some teeth soon!

 All done!

Sorry bout this pic, but have you ever tried taking a picture of your thigh with your not dominant hand?? Not so easy..

Anyways I hope you enjoyed this post, have a great day everyone!!
